Intermittent Air Blower Issue On 2012 Westminster

Hello, I was wondering whether anybody could please advise on the following:

2012 Westminster with an air blower that stops and starts at random; it works to the correct set temperature so it's not an issue of temperature control - the fan just seems to stop/start at random intervals currently making long journeys on hot summer's days rather painful!

Any help would be much appreciated

Just to confirm, it is the blower which is intermittent and not the flow of cool air?

The air con compressor is a known issue on these engines. When the pressure control valve sticks, it can almost randomly go from supplying cool air to supplying un-cooled air for a while. This has no impact on the speed the blower works at however.

The blowers themselves are also known to cause trouble with age, as the brushes and the bearings wear down (symptom is intermittent squeaking). The part itself is inexpensive, however it's a big job to replace.

Wait to see any other suggestions from other members on this issue also. Those are the two key ones I'm aware of. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Interesting to read those thoughts.

When air emerges, it is always the correct set temperature.

Either the blower makes a sound but no air comes out;

Or no sound is heard at all.

My guess would be that it's something causing the fan to stop/start?

When my vent fan was erratic, I removed the intake box under the bonnet and sprayed a substantial quantity of wd40 in though the fans. Some actually reaches the noisy/stiff motor bearings. No more squeaking.
I changed the hedgehog unit too and all has been well since.
Easier than stripping out the dash and worth a try. Forty years of progress. 1972-2012
