L322 2012 4.4 TDV8 Thermostst Housing Replacement

I have a new thermostat housing being delivered next week and need some advice on changing it.

Is it installed without having to remove the fan shroud and fan to detach the hose connection to the thermostat, or can it be installed by just unclipping and detaching the three hoses at the front of the housing without removing the fan shroud and fan?

I have searched high and low for installation instructions to no avail.

All advice greatly appreciated as always.

AFAIK you need to remove the whole fan and shroud to get access. If it's just a faulty thermostat then the small housing can be just swopped out without having to change the whole assembly which it comes with. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Did you have problems sourcing it? Low supply currently.
Have you looked in the workshop manual on the Wiki page? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

@Dr Rob,
I have been speaking with my MD, they have about 40 on back order, some of which are due to arrive this week. My order has been given priority due to vehicle being off road...

I have checked the workshop manual, it gives great detail about changing the thermostat alone, which requires fan shroud and fan to be removed.

@JayGee,
Was hoping that the entire thermostat housing can be replaced without disassembling half the front end.

I have been quoted £1,000 for the thermostat installation. I dont mind doing the work myself for that sort of money. It should take no more than 6 hours or so...

Many thanks for the advice.

it is possible to that without removing fan, but you dont want to do that this way. You spend lot of time trying to release tubes.

@Jimmie,
Thanks for your comment.... You are aware that this is the 2012, 4.4 TDV8 Jimmie?

Its not just the fan shroud and fan that has to come of to replace the thermostat on its own. The turbo actuator has to be removed entirely and the transmission oil cooler unbolted too.

I would also rather replace the entire thermostat housing together with the thermostat as a unit, rather than have the housing fail due to the plastic becomin brittle in due course.

Jimmie, do you have any advice specific to the replacement of the complete thermostat housing?

I appreciate that the plenum, throttle body etc will have to be removed and have no issue with that, as its a relatively quickly removed as I have recently replaced the oil cooler. and the turbo oil feed o-rings.

It doesn't seem to make much sense to have to remove the fan shroud, fan, turbo actuator and the transmission cooler to replace the thermosatat housing sitting in the V of the engine.

All further comments appreciated.

@Muddy,

Sadly not yet, although my MD told me they would be available last week. Try Duckworths, they too said they were due to receive some last week, but no confirmation of availability as yet.
