About to embark on my first overland tour of the British Isles, camping each night.

What's your views regarding keeping the boot and tail gate open for extended times? Not overnight

Will it consume a lot of battery power?

I'm also a bit ocd about leaving the tailgate open any longer than I need to. Family seems to take an age in changing walking boots and stuff. However, there is a timer that turns off all boot lights after about 20mins without shutting the boot. Open again and the 20 mins cycle restarts. You could of course fit LED lamps which consume negligible current. From rest opening the tailgate does "wake" the sleeping beauty where the screen comes on and small cabin fans whirl a while and no doubt various computer modules spring to life .. but again all shut down after 20mins ish whilst the boot remains open.
When I take my tin tent on tour its always to a site with electric hook up, as I always have my battery charger with me and just because I can I often charge it. (I have a plug permanently connected to the battery in the boot space .. tidy and secure both electrically and aesthetically so super easy to connect charger if required. Close the boot with mains lead through gap to one side of the bottom and top gates if you like which doesn't pinch or squash the cable. If you are wild camping this might not of course be an option.

You could also turn off the interior lights if not needed. On the L322 you hold in the switch on the front interior light. I would guess L405 is similar. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

It’ll be fine … no different from opening a door and leaving it. The car wakes up each time you open the door as well, so if you know you’l be in an out loads, may be easier just leaving it open once.

You’re touring as well, so it’ll recharge on the drive between places. V8 or else ...

I pretty much leave the boot open all the time whilst we're camping, as we sort of "live out of the back" of the car and use the tailgate as a table etc.

Never seen any issues with battery drain, just when you open and close a door that it wakes everything up and drains the battery, so it's best to just open them and leave them open if possible.

It's probably the biggest annoyance with the car for camping, I wish there was a way to disable this behaviour but there doesn't seem to be.
