Engine fan very active on P530

Hi all,

My engine fan comes on almost every trip despite them being no more than 15 mins or so max.

Is this normal?

Didn’t happen on my 5.0SCAB Sport.

I have the P530 BMW engine.

Seems overly sensitive to have the fan come on aggressively every time I do a short journey. And the av temp in London is 15-18c only…

I suppose there will be higher under-bonnet temps with a hot-vee engine.

I have a P530 and have not noticed a fan come on at all. Long or short journeys. Maybe it depends on how much the turbos have been running beforehand.

check thermostat housing, possible damage? Thermostat misreading internal engine temps? (happened on my 4.4 TDV8)

This is normal for this engine and emissions tech. It’s to do with the PPF as I understand it. The Audi/Bentley/Lambo V8 does the same.

My two P530 have been the same as yours.

Just by way of amplification of the comment from Autobiography: see the 'Harry's Garage' youtube video on the Bentayga 4.0 in which he comments on the frequent fan operation required in 'hot V' twin turbos. Only Range Rovers since 1988

The thing I notice is when I get home and switch off, the fan runs for quite a while. letters not necessarily in the right order

Yes the fans run on from. I was told its so the engine doesn't cook itself, mine does the same and is normal according to factory. Thumbs Up Advice I was given was if driven hard or for a long time allow engine to idle for a few seconds before you shut down, that will help as well.
