LR & Dealer Silence

There’s a few comments on here about the total lack of communication between LR, the dealer and us lot trying to buy cars plus a feeling that they don’t give a damn about us.

I ordered my 510e AB, without any difficult extras, from Pentland in Scotland 14 months ago and cannot get any info whatsoever about the order or what the problem is. Ok there’s chip problems etc but is it beyond the wit of LR to at least let us know something and some sort of estimate of delivery. The dealer has no idea and is obviously not asking.

I would have thought a person like John Clark, owner of Pentland, would be hammering on their door on behalf of us.

I now have our 7 year old SDV8 coming up again for warranty and don’t particularly want to pay £1734 for the privilege - again.

One very annoyed customer.

2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Causeway Grey

I am down in the south east with my TDV8 and have seen numerous posts both here and elsewhere about unscrupulous goings-on with main dealers and the total lack of genuine interest in the owners of the vehicles they claim to represent. I have phoned a few main dealers close to me, and asked simple enough questions in the past few years about work/s to be done to my baby, and the responses are ALWAYS vague, sometimes disrespectful, and seemingly coming from people who are rammed too far up their own cave-holes.

Try getting them to detail any charges or prices relating to almost anything you might want them to undertake on your RR, and they get very cagey indeed... And if you dare to suggest that the times they estimate for certain works seem a tad hyper inflated: they WILL hang up.

They won't pin prices down at all. And my experience has been that they rarely know what they're talking about, relating to RRs... And my experience of RR/LR '''specialists''' outlets hasn't been much different to be honest.

A logo above the door to print money is my opinion nowadays - and not much knowledge to boot.

I once happened across a LR '''specialist''' '''engineer''' who didn't even realise our cherish vehicles had a bonnet/hood that had a service mode position!!!???!!!

No more...

Plus they killed off Jeremy Clarkson's cherish RR following a simple service...

The lack of communication is annoying, but I'd say it is a LR problem rather than a dealer problem, and dealers may well have tried to get information since the L460 was launched but found that they never get anything from LR and have become discouraged from wasting more time trying. They will just have been told the general waiting times, which I believe at present are 12-18 months for most models, though D300 and maybe P400 are 9 - 12 months and of course one cannot order P530AB at all.

I would not be surprised if LR don't know what builds they will be scheduling either. A dealer commented to me a while ago: "We never know what's coming from LR, it's just a case of when the truck turns up seeing what is on it". Maybe it's better now, but it may give a flavour.

LR were said to have an order backlog of some 45,000 RRs, and the UK is only 7% of LR sales, again not helpful.

FWIW when I was looking for a P38 in 2000 I found I got a better deal and better service at what was then Croall Bryson in Kelso (now Lloyd Land Rover) than at Pentland, and I've found it worth going to Kelso since, though that obviously won't help with an existing Pentland order. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I agree with you, nrgltd, the dealers try as hard as they can to get info, but there doesn’t seem to be a clear roadmap from LR’s side for when they will be able to produce the existing spec’ed orders. New order restrictions keep popping up (black birch veneers, Exec Comfort seats etc) - doesn’t look very promising currently, IMO.

How long is it possible to keep up the enthusiasm for what might show up one day? Of course a first world problem, but it’s almost a bit depressing that this highly anticipated, £190’ ultimate RR purchase experience is gradually slipping into the “park and forget” category. It’s been more than a year since our contract was signed, but it doesn’t seem that LR will produce our spec’ed P510e AB anytime soon. Maybe next year?

AFAIK, domestically almost none have accepted the equipment downgrade (Signature Sound…) for their orders, and that’s most likely the reason why hardly any L460 have been delivered locally so far. But we’re politely standing in the line amongst the other 45’ backlog orders.

I share your frustration. I put my deposit down before the official launch, but haven't heard anything from the dealer. When I do chase them, I get the sense they are also frustrated with the process as you'd expect.

I was in the French Alps recently and saw a UK 72 reg L460 P510e very similar to what I have ordered. I guess it really comes down to spec, and not for the first time, I regret having ordered a well spec'd car with - probably unnecessary - items like rear seat screens and the event seating in the boot. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

Agree its a frustrating process with LR. My experience might not be the norm, but it has been bad.

I attended a pre launch L460 event at Holland and Holland, had a good look around and was told absolutely no orders would be taken by dealers prior to the "online" launch.

When the LR ordering went online for PHEV I tried, but the LR online ordering system immediately crashed, confirmed by LR. Within an hour I had a deposit placed and deposit taken.

But, oh no, weeks later the dealer confirmed that my order was lost, my finance application lost and its a case of get to the back of the queue as they had no idea what spec to place. All very odd and by far the worst buying experience I've ever encountered. Sad

And then in another thread on this forum they are talking about spending over £230k for a AB FFRR.

Just had a call from the dealer.

My 510e AB has been on order for ages; see 1st thread of this topic.

I’m told that my original order number will now be updated today to a 550e AB but may have a different spec and I will get a revised order but will not lose my place in the queue. Apparently they are moving away from multi-options to bundled packs, but no detail. This will speed up delivery but I have no idea how. Also certain colours have been scrapped - not mine.

They have a lot of cars on order and still no idea of my delivery but at least I know that someone knows about it in LR.

Looking on the configurator it looks as if my car is now about £20k more than when I ordered it.

Finally I was told if you order one today it is 48 months wait but I may have misheard him.

There are some threads about the new 24 model: https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic66889.html and https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic66902.html. Most noticeable is the removal of the HVAC, volume and terrain response buttons... Plus removing options (like not being able to order Hot stone / comfort plus seats on ATB trim etc)

If thats true, does that mean you're going to have shoulder 4 years worth of price increments?

Yes. I was told ages ago that, although my order states that my price is protected, and they and I signed up to that, forget it.

It's exactly the same for folks ordering a new RRS. The experiences are exactly the same and the common denominator is the dealers (and/or) LR. Crazy state of affairs. visiting from www.rrsport.co.uk
