Caveat Emptor is probably the most relevant factor for this one ….

A dealer with a car for sale for 879 days!!! I reckon it is the owner's car and he told his wife that he ' and sell it. Lol
If he had been sensible with price he might have shifted it a year or more ago. It looks like his price reductions are always lagging behind depreciation.

Out of interest, I ran the registration. The car has been used and not well maintained. Not only has it now got another 10k miles over and above the 67k in the advert but in September 23 it failed MoT spectacularly.
Coincidentally, it passed a week later but only the majors were addressed, not the advisories.
I think this car will still be for sale here in another 879 days.

Garages and private owners are entitled to set their price. If it sells above book they win if it doesnt, they can try lowering their price to secure a sale. Selling for 2 years normally attracts depreciation, evidently not in this case. Looks a decent car but ultimately not a euro 6.

Their sales slogan - THE CAR YOU SEE TODAY AND PLAN TO BUY TOMORROW SOMEONE SAW YESTERDAY.

Ironically, I am still looking while many are looking to sell, sadly what is now affordable in purchase price still leaves me floundering as my own 21 reg Tiguan 190bhp SEL has plummeted by 7.5k in 11 months.

I agree that any seller can set their price but if you haven't sold it in 2 1/2 years, that would suggest the price is too high. Most dealers want to see stock turning over, not sitting on the forecourt. If this had simply been stock, then it would have cost the dealer a fortune in depreciation over that period. As it happens, the dealer must have been using the car as the mileage rose significantly in the period and he saved money by only carrying out maintenance required to get an MoT. I certainly wouldn't feel confident buying off a dealer like this.

I hope you find what you are looking for. Depreciation is the thing that hits us all, especially in the early years of a vehicle. Unfortunately since covid, car prices have been all over the place as short supply caused used prices to be artificially inflated. The market is probably self regulating now. ULEZ is not helping many vehicle prices now either.
