Ordered a set of brake pads for my 2012 RR TDV8. Clearly ordered the stets spec pads LR0160069 and received confirmation that this exact part number was ordered.

They shipped pads with a part number that had been superseded a number of times and was subject to an LR TSB meaning the pads needed chamfering to avoid squealing. These pads have been superseded a few times now to the latest ones which I ordered.

I complained saying they hadn't delivered the goods as ordered which was their responsibility under the distance selling regulations and that the part supplied was not fit for purpose as per the TSB.

Completely refused to do anything and basically told me that if I didn't like it I should return them any my cost. I disagree and told tough take it or leave it.

Have returned them now and they gave failed to pay for even the return postage and have the audacity to charge me a re-stocking fee!!!

Please avoid them - Is it worth pursuing in small claims? It's a re-stocking fee and carrier charges of about £50.

many JLR part numbers get updated with new numbers .

if the pads were the same but with different numbers i cant see the problem..

your personnel experience with this company might not be the same as others have had and ranting on that others shouldn't use them is inappropriate .. ... - .- -.

Sorry to hear of your issue, and it’s of little use now, but it may help others in similar circumstances:
Always pay by credit card (not debit card). Take pictures of the order/goods/email correspondence (try to avoid phone calls, due to deniability issues). If no joy from the vendor, report it to your card issuer and ask them to make a chargeback. Most card issuers will review your supporting evidence and credit the balance back to your account quite quickly if valid. You do not have to return the incorrect goods, but keep them available for collection by the vendor, but if you do agree to return them, get proof of delivery.
I have been in similar circumstances with unhelpful vendors, and always got 100% refund via my card issuer, much less stressful than small claims which costs you money.
Not infallible I know, but always check out a “new” supplier on TrustPilot or similar before ordering.  “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

It's not inappropriate - far from it, it's the responsibility of the company selling from distance to supply goods as described. If you describe a part with a certain part number then you expect to receive that as you cannot pick it off a shelf yourself...?

To me this feels like they've bought a load of old parts and are trying to flog them off which I have no issue with but they should make that clear and supply the actual part number ordered.

So in this instance the parts were not as described and also not fit for purpose due to the TSB LR raised about this specific part number.

@gremlin500 - thanks I did pay by card but in two minds whether or not to go after them.

All correspondence is in email including me sending them the TSB from JLR relating to these specific part numbers supplied.

Posting this here mainly for advice b ut also so people can buy from this company with their eyes open.

so you received a updated pads that dont squeal? ... - .- -.

Bear in mind that part numbers can change for a variety of reasons - sometimes even if it's just a change in the packaging for the same parts. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Should there be a "not" after "might"?

BTW, that part no. LR0160069 seems to have too many digits. Should it be LR160069 which are incredibly expensive brake pads?

Is it really that hard to chamfer the pads as per the TSB? Do you have a copy of the TSB. My new pads squeal so maybe the TSB will work for me. I can see from the pic for LR160069 on JLR's website, that the chamfer is significant.

Just get your credit card company to do a chargeback, you can do it online. I got ripped off buying a dog box - they ignored my emails and wouldn’t refund - I got a full refund through my credit card within days 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Stan - yes they supplied the older part number and refused to change despite advertising. The new part number and confirming via email order confirmation.

P38rover - yes but that’s not the point. I ordered the later part that needed no chamfering not the outdated part number that did need it. Yes I have a copy of the TSB a and sent that to them, clearly states the part number and clearly shows that it needs an amount of chamfering which didn’t seem to work as they superseded a few versions.

Ennoch - yes absolutely. I ordered a specific part number. They confirmed that part number via email. They then supplied a different part number which was several versions out of date and was associated with a TSB because of excessive squealing.

Haylands - yes used to use Duckworths but have tended to online suppliers recently I guess this is the price you pay.

Vogue - will call cc company on Tuesday to recover the £50 I’ve lost here
