Arnott fakes CVD suspension. AS-2798 and AS-2797

Hi everyone.
If someone will replace CVD suspension avoid Arnott. They cost almost the same like OE or Bilstein, but you get regular shock absorber and very expensive resistor to cheat controller.

Here you can see how should it look:

and here how it looks in Arnott fake CVD suspension.

Interesting...

I very nearly went Arnott on my rear CVDs based on the good feedback I read.

But, in the end, I went for Bilstein as the cost difference was negligible.

The new Bilsteins are en route from Germany as I type. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

Response from arnott:

Quote:
AS-2797 and AS-2798 are new manufactured, these have been specially tuned by Arnott.
If you would like to have the features of the OE we recommend for you to take the AS-2758/57.

They advise it for vehicles with Variable Damping System (VDS) and cross number LR032567

they even show this weird part in instruction manual

but in any place tell it is fake

Wow Shocked

I always think of Arnott as being good quality stuff TBH, but to advertise it as a CVD strut and then have a cheat resistor in the cap is surely something trading standards would be very interested in?

Unless they're very clear that it's NOT actually a CVD strut?

What if they werent changed as a pair then that'd make for an interesting ride quality / handling. Could be very dangerous in fact...

Just playing devils advocate here, I might have read it wrong, but are they not suggesting to use a different part number if you want the features of OE?

I wonder if they are selling these shocks as normal shocks that you can fit onto a CVD car and not have any errors thrown up, but of course, no actual CVD operation….. if you see what I mean.

Just going by what they said….

Could be way off of course 🤣

they dont tell in any place it is NOT cvd. If you compare reman and new spare parts, you dont find any difference in description clearly tells one is cvd and another is not. Price is the same as new bilstein with cvd. They mention in installation manual "connect plug into the damper"

find differences between these two

The only difference I can see is that one comes with the strut top that might have resistor in to stop dash errors when the strut, probably non CVD, is fitted.

The other comes as a strut without the new strut top, and it might not need it, as that shock might be proper CVD.

Both would be for cars with CVD, but with one of them you would lose CVD functionality, and that’s the one they said is tuned by Arnott (instead).

Again, I might be way off…. They have definitely not explained it very well if that is indeed the case and I understand how you feel hacked off and misled.

Does the above sound plausible given pics and their reply? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

There wouldn't be anything wrong with them offering this for those who wanted to 'cheat the system' so to speak, especially if there was a big variable in price. However, they do not state that you lose the VDS setup, and the price is close to a proper Bilstein (especially given what you're missing). Therefore you have to think it's pretty disingenuous behaviour, if not outrightly fraudulent.

This is crazy. If they're not clearly stating that this is a "cheat" device and will disable the CVD system, it's definitely fraudulent and downright stupid.

As a kit to "delete" CVD for owners who know what they're doing, it's a welcome product, but otherwise, well... Neutral Sam's Motor & Machine YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgNSRjY0I9FCzsi9ku3ccbw

especially the price is double if compare to standard shocks. 2,2Ohm, 5W resistor costs less than 0.5 GBP.

But if someone will replace one cvd strut with arnott product like @John G then it may be dangerous.
Difference in handling between cvd and regular shocks is enormous.

I was only speculating given what was posted above about what they advised coupled with the pics. I might be way off…..

But if correct, it’s very misleading and the price difference does not reflect it.

Just bought a Car with one of these fitted.
Only found out when investigating an Active Dynamics Waring on th Dash.
Took the Top off the Arnott Strut to find no connection to the Strut.
Wiring plugs in the Top Hat, so I guess I’m getting the Warning as the cheat resistor has failed.
Looks like I need a replacement Strut then 🙄🙄🙄 2001, 4.4 TDV8, Vogue, Baltic Blue

Jon G, which side are you after? I've got a near side one. Bilstein, date 2016.
