M62 4.4 V8 Petrol - Fault code help required

Hello all,

My Rangie has been feeling a little lethargic of late and although the GAP iid tool can’t find any faults in the engine ecu, my Foxwell NT510 can! Symptoms when driving are gutless performance on motorway hills and if you know it Lindale Hill in South Lakes/Cumbria where I was down to 50 mph. In comparison, my 110 Defender flew up the same hill with less than half the power of the RR.
Fuel is only ever Super E5.

These are the codes:

P0000 Purge Valve output drive fault.
P0012 Camshaft Control Bank 1 fault
P0022 Camshaft Control Bank 2 fault
P0161 O2 sensor heater circuit Bank 2 downstream sensor fault
P0156 O2 sensor circuit bank 2 downstream sensor

I also read some live values to see if that revealed anything.
Purge Valve 0% duty regardless of throttle position
Cam Position Bank 1 21.185 degrees at idle
Cam Position bank 2 15.382 degrees at idle
Air leakage 6.9 kg/h
adaptations on all 8 were -20.843
Wanos Bank 1 94.9%
Wanos Bank 2 94.9%
Ignition Angle 6.75 degrees at idle and 14.25degrees when throttle blipped
Engine roughness on all 8 varied from 0.477 > -0.022 (each value was different)
Knock Threshold on all 8 varied from 15.625v > 8.203v

I was going to start googling these values but I thought I’d ask on here if any of you good people could shed light on what I should be checking or parts that may need changing….

When the timing chain guides got eaten and replaced, it had new plugs etc at the same time amongst other bits and foolishly I cleared the engine adaptation values which made it a pig to start and drive for a while.

Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated 👍 I have tried search and only got one thread on the P0012 code that wasn’t answered. 2002 L322 4.4V8 - G4 Challenge Car - Australia leg

This weekend, I decided to fit new crank position sensors and Vanos solenoids to see if it would improve things and remove a few codes…. It did not. The codes were cleared and the car driven but they are still the same values on the code reader live data. On the upside, I have new parts fitted and working spares, on the down side I lost a 10mm socket to the undertray Sad

The codes mention plausibility so I’m wondering if this could be a wiring loom or ECU issue? It’s odd as there are definitely values being read by the code reader which alter as expected when driving. Just not on the VANOS which remain static at 94.9%…. 2002 L322 4.4V8 - G4 Challenge Car - Australia leg

Just a shot in the dark, when my old V8 4.4 petrol got gutless the throttle pedal only went to 60% on the IID at WOT, you can check it with the IID, should read 100% when floored... obviously do it with the ignition on and engine off... Whistle

Good luck, hope you sort it.... Thumbs Up Pete

Thanks Haylands, that was a good call to check. Just tried it but it’s showing 100% when the throttle is floored and progressively decreases as I take my foot off.
One less think to check though .

Inspected the wiring as much as I could from Vanos plug into where it joins the main loom and goes into the ECU housing (and inside that) and it all looks ok. Might try some continuity tests tomorrow on the vanos solenoid plugs and see if it reveals anything. 2002 L322 4.4V8 - G4 Challenge Car - Australia leg
