Any Ideas what Causes This ?

Hi

Been away for 70 odd days, both my Wife's car and my car gone green, Gave them a good wash but this is some kind of residue when the car was washed. Had to T-Cut top of wife's car. We get this on the top of our motorhome too !

If here in Oz I would definitely say sap or gum from a tree, or pollen etc from some flowering tree. Not sure in the UK, but that's what it looks like to me !

My guess would be mould spores that settle on the car, they stay damp and grow, then it rains and washes them away a bit leaving the tails.... Pete

We have a log burner, far from cars but not used whilst away. Neighbour just had one fitted but hadn’t used it yet.

We do have a lot of industry and trees, vegetation near y !

neighbours bonfire! The prat near me (a builder) was burning plastic waste from his business along with garden waste Whistle it gets just high enough to clear the fence, cools and falls out all over the drive. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

#3 Looks like soot to me too Censored

If its mould, get a sample and try to grow it on a piece of soggy bread in a plastic bag somewhere warm?

Does it come off OK? Shocked “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

We get this on cars and the caravan when they're not washed for a while too.

No neighbours within 1/2 mile so can't be that up here. We do have a lot of trees around us so I've always just put it down to that. Only happens at this time of year too. Summer seems to be much more forgiving.

If washed regularly they're ok, getting them off when they look like that is hard work.
