Just returned from a weekend away and noticed that when I was stopped a couple of times I could smell a faint oil burning smell in the cabin.

It went away when moving, but I didn’t notice it at all when we were pootling round the Longleat safari or much at all when I get out.

The engine smells normal/warm, like it always has. I’ve had a look under and there’s no oil on the sump guard, I can’t see well in the V round the cooler but it’s not too bad from what I can see, doesn’t seem to be any oil which isn’t from the filter changes.

Both engine oil round the filler and coolant look clean.

Any other ideas what to check? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

are you sure its an 'oil' smell..

could it be seizing brakes or dust in the heater vents.. ... - .- -.

Possibly brakes Stan, didn’t seem to be holding the car though. I’ll investigate. 👍🏻 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

or maybe the FBH which runs a lot of the time in the winter to preheat the diesel going into the engine 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black

Dont think it’s the FBH, I smelled it when we got to the M4 Bath roundabout on the way down, so the car had been running 3 hours. Somewhere towards burned oil and tar. Just been out for a run and no smell.

I wonder if it’s possibly a DPF regen? Not sure if or how that would smell….. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Usually you can see smoke in the headlamps if its engine oil from the cooler or alike...

I did consider the rings on the pipe at the back of the engine, but without stripping either the under tray off or the scuttle I can’t see down there very well, I will get the endoscop out and see if I can get a better look. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
