Modules .........but which ones ????

OK People,

Some help here please.
The 2016 L405 5.0 S/C went to the main dealer today for a N350 software update......so far so good.
They gave it the mandatory healthcheck whilst there............not good.

Number of issues found.....most of which I know about and am sorting out.

The left field one I knew nothing about is as follows:-

"Advise IMC update may rectify infotainment concerns - potentially may require replacement modules if update fails"

I say....."so how much are the modules and which ones may need replacing?" would be silly to go for it without knowing the scale of Plan B

Apparently they are no longer available through the manufacturer.......tip top.

So, can anyone tell me which modules I may need and maybe they also have the relevent part numbers as well as a steer on the best place to get them..........

Thank you all in advance.

Can't the person who told you that they are no longer available from the manufacturer clarify exactly which modules they are referring to in that statement ?

Hi Alistair

I tried to get that information at the main dealer.......talk about obfuscation !! They really do not want to commit to giving any opinion apart from the system being effectively obsolete and the update may well cause problems with one or a multiple number of modules which would only become apparent once the update was either successful of partially successful.

I like a gamble but this one is an open cheque book which I do not like. If I could get some idea of the magnitude in £'s then I would be much happier to pull the trigger on the update.
I hope that makes sense.

It sounds like a piece of string......

Do you have a code reader ? it may be worth trying to see which modules (if any) are throwing errors.

Ultimately, I guess all the modules are available from various breakers.

Indeed it does Alistair.........a potentially expensive piece of string.

The workshop manager at the MD confirmed today that there are no error codes on any of the modules which is also rather worrying.

If I can get a list of the modules then I can price up and it may be easier to just buy the lot and start replacing one by one until the functionality returns............unless someone has a better plan !

There's a manual in the wiki - up at the top right under where it ways fullfatrr.com - there may be a list of the modules in there, or a schematic that shows them.

So, having been to the MD I thought I would ask them for the part numbers, my reasoning being that if the parts are now obsolete and discontinued then they are not losing out financially and they may just want to give it a bit of good old fashioned customer service.

Wrong.............so totally wrong. Response below (edited to protect the author)

I quote "I have asked our parts department for you , unfortunately we cannot provide part numbers out to clients. We also are not allowed to fit non genuine parts to vehicles so whoever does fit this would have to see if it would need Individually pairing to the car.

I apologise that this doesn't provide you with much more knowledge on the situation."

So basically I am b*****ed,..... if I do buy a whole bunch of replacement modules then they may well need coding to the car and this may or may not work.
So my odds will not have got any better.
I need to find an expert in LR electronics who can sort this mess out for me.
Any ideas anyone???

Thanks all.

The way I read it is that they propose to run some sort of software update to try to fix the infotainment issues.

The software update might kill some modules, but also it might not.

So I guess it's kind of hard to know what to do from there, it's a roll of the dice. You certainly don't want to go out & buy every module that has even the remotest chance of damage.

Conversely, if they run the update and it fails, they'll just return a non-working car to you as they can't source the parts or fit customer supplied parts - and you were warned.....

Sounds like a massive cop out on their part, but sadly I have no other advice than maybe try a different main dealer.

A decent JLR specialist should be able to carry out these updates for you. I know our local one can do it.

It's probably worth speaking to them where you can get some common sense rather then using your main dealer. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

I agree, trouble is that so far the car had been to a number of "specialists" and we have got nowhere.
TBH I am getting rather tired of all this faffing about...........
Maybe time to cash in and move on..........I will ponder that whilst trying to find a good specialist locally.
