Canada 2014 Range Rover 5.0 SC V8 Barolo Black
Cold Weather Secret Weapon

The block heater on my Range Rover is turning out to be worth its weight in gold this winter. Sure, the cost of wiring installation was akin to ransoming a king, but on those bone-chilling, teeth-rattling -30°C days, it's making a world of difference. It's like having a secret weapon against the frosty clutches of Old Man Winter.

But here's the bewildering part – the fact that fully wired in block heaters aren't a standard feature on Range Rovers shipped to Canada. It's about as logical as selling umbrellas that don't like rain. Canada and cold are like tea and biscuits – they just go together. So why these vehicles arrive in the Great White North without being fully equipped to tackle the Canadian deep freeze is a mystery wrapped in an enigma, and then dipped in nonsense!

Shocked

I'm glad I can park mine inside during the winter - even though we don't get quite as low as -30

Hi,

That's seriously cold, I remember visiting Goose Bay years ago in the winter and all the vehicles were all lined up and plugged in at the air base.

I just read a thread on Google about manufactures not shipping cars to Canada with them as standard, they're citing better performing oils and the like as no need to have them as standard.

Me, I think one of the first options I'd be going for.

My Canadian L322 (2008) had a block heater as standard, I wonder if they dropped it on the L405 ? Agreed its a bit of a miss in a cold climate. 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

Using a block heater during the winter is a game changer. It ensures the car starts smoothly, without any struggle. This surely reduces wear and tear on the engine. Plus, a significant bonus – it gets the cabin warm quickly.

This morning the mercury is at -37C

@Salsbury:

Seems the UK has a little bit of Canada on the way to us from tomorrow for the next week or two… Shocked “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
