Rear Brake in service mode MY19+

2019, L494 (I know…). Doing the rear brakes but the trick with the ignition, brake switch and accelerator etc does not appear to work. On the 2016 L405 it did work and messaged it was in service mode but in the 2019 no message or sound and when I switch ignition off the park brake engages. My IIDTool errors on asking it to do it too (I’ve emailed Pat et al).

Anyone got this to work on one of the later models?

Well my WSM states for 2018 L405

This procedure requires the vehicle in the Park or Neutral position, with the ignition turned ON (the engine must be OFF) and the parking brake system released.

NOTE:
This procedure allows the parking brake to be released when removing and installing new rear brake pads or brake discs.

NOTE:
An audible noise will be heard to confirm that the parking brake has been released in Service Mode.

ACTIVATION
1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the release position.
2. Wait 2 seconds.
3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.
4. Wait 2 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition Off and back On immediately.
6. Release the accelerator pedal and release the parking brake switch to the neutral position 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

".....and the parking brake system released"

Ah, maybe I didn't have the park brake released before I started but was turning it off on the holding down part. Will try with the brake off to start.

Many thanks.

Yes. That works but its kinda fickle. Took 4 attempts before I got it to work but heard noise and got message on info centre to say in service mode.

Many thanks Thumbs Up

Swapped the rear pads out, no issues and pistons pushed back nicely. I did the front pads and discs last Saturday.

The wear sensor on the rear broke on removing so got a new one but a very circuitous route to a clip with three other connectors and obviously the brake sensor is the middle one of the three. The ABS is the closest to the outside so I needed to mangle it to remove it to get access to the brake sensor junction. Why make the ABS closer?!? Do they think ABS will break more often then the brake sensor?

I found getting access to both the front and rear sensors connector junctions was the hardest part of the job. Rolling Eyes
