Evening all,

Popped out for a takeaway this evening in the L405 and on exit just before I hit the motorway I heard a thump. Stopped to find something hanging out of the tyre, I did think for a moment i had a suspension collapse.

Unluckily for me, it appears someone has lost a track end rod and it ended up thread first into my tyre. Good job it went in the direction it did otherwise a whole world of pain would have ensued if it hit the suspension.

I think I'd have done the same - I have zero confidence in the jack

It's a shame given all the suspension technology that they didn't go the whole way like Citroen, that way you'd only need to carry a block of wood around if you get a puncture, i.e. raise the car to offroad height, insert said block of wood under jacking point, retract the suspension and offending wheel lifts off the ground. If you combine that with a decent impact driver you'd be able to change a wheel in less than 5 minutes and much less risk of personal injury.

Hi, replying to my own thread as thought spinning in my head (lots of room I know), anyone know what would happen if you attached a vacuum line to an airspring in place of the presure line ?

Would it in fact retract the suspension if you had the body on stands ?

Could we have stumbled on a bit of a thing here if were possible and marketable, i.e. use some kind of engine generated vacuum supply to retract a suspension leg, or legs ?

Don’t think it’d work. Great idea, but I think the air bag would collapse in on itself or around the strut at the front rather than retract its length like a piston. V8 or else ...
