does your insurance cover your sunroof glass [l405]

i dont know how i missed this but looking through my insurance details i've noticed that the sunroof glass is not covered , windscreen yes, sunroof glass no.

so any damage to it would be a costly repair.....be warned and check your insurance! ... - .- -.

I found that up to my last renewal it was quite easy to find a policy that covered sunroofs without affecting the NCB, but now it's much more difficult. Another way for the insurance companies to in effect put the price up by removing a feature. 2017 SDV8 Autobiography

For us with the letterbox sunroof in L322 land to be honest it's hardly worth the worry as you can buy the entire sunroof cartridge for less that £100, and I've changed them in a couple of hours, so for me it just wouldn't make sense given as I have a $250 excess.

For those with later models with the full glass roof, when your looking up at the stars, just hope that the twinkling holes in the sky where the rain falls in aren't just falling rocks.

Shocked

What about all the other windows? Are they similarly often a cop-out as well?

For those of us old enough to remember, insurance certificates can be identified by the letters “IZAL” in the top right-hand corner………. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I first heard of that one on here.

TBH, I think it's kind of fair enough - you can still claim for sunroof damage, but it's a proper claim & not the £100 or so windscreen excess only.

AFAIK all regular windows count under the windscreen clause.

Supershuttle,

My reading of that clause re sunroofs not covered “under windscreen cover” suggests that the sunroof would be covered under the main policy but would be exempt from the £100 (or so) excess you’d ordinarily pay for a windscreen.

Does the policy reference sunroofs elsewhere?

Regards

John

So the implication would be that you’d lose your NCB is you claimed for the sunroof? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Potentially, if you didn’t have protected NCB. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

looks like a grey area, it says in the policy doc. that sunroofs are not covered but obviously if I were to roll the vehicle I would expect them to fix the roof and of course I would have to pay the full excess as for any other serious repair. Geoff

that would work but what if a brick/stone smashed the sunroof , would you be able to claim on the main policy?... ... - .- -.

Don't think it would cost you a million quid to upgrade your cover Stan... However, as more and more of these are now in breakers hands, a used item could easily be sourced Stan... Thumbs Up
