Door check strap

My driver door check strap is squeaking and clunking when opening and closing. Tried syl lube, 3/1 oil and have now ordered a new one. Followed earlier thread, but question is has anyone ever replaced theirs and if so did the interior door card have to be removed?? Thanks in advance! Mike

Yes the door card needs to come off because the check strap goes from inside the door outwards
