ACE actuators / hydraulic sway bar repair

At a recent service I was quoted $5100 aud to replace a front sway bar actuator. I was wondering if these units are serviceable. Any thoughts or experience?

I dont know of anyone servicing them. I suppose anything is possible ... but I dont think I've ever seen parts of the units. Just the units as a whole.

In terms of your quote: 5100AUD <> £2500 ish.

That seems a lot of money to be honest imho. But I'm very much inclined to DIY repairs personally. Here in the UK, you could source a second hand unit for £200-300 and a new one on ebay is ~£800-900 ( i dont know about genuine price )

Replacing the front roll bar would be a case of:
- remove undershield tray ( not hard )
- undo the drop links ( not hard )
- undo the pipes on the actuator ( not hard )
- undo the bolts holding the actuator ( not hard )
- remove.

Refit is same as reverse. Refill and run ... the system sort of self bleeds, but might take a few goes of refilling and running.

You might not even need to jack it up or take the front wheels off. You might be able to just drive the front wheels onto a small ramp to get the access. V8 or else ...

Fisha, many thanks for your reply. Yes I agree it sounds very expensive. I’m trying a different mob for my next service so will ask them for a quote. The first quoter charged over $9000aud to replace high pressure fuel pump so they do have form!
