The importance of the correct wheel nut torque | |
Had noticable wheel judder when high speed braking after a recent tyre change. I retorqued all the nuts and some were massivley overtightened and needed nearly my full 90KG on a long breaker bar to loosen them. Saw the fitter going round the nuts with a torque wrench but reckon they were just checking if any were loose after spinning them up with the air gun. No judder when I had retorqued them and after just having a front disk off to reatach the dust sheild I can see how overtightening will cause problems . The hub face is not flat and has an inner and outer mounting ring to mate with the inside of the disk so overtightening will cause the hub and /or disk to warp......
It's 140Nm for a reason and not crank them up by 'feel' with your longest breaker bar. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
