Apologies if this is fairly obvious but as I am currently looking for an L322 I have been running insurance quotes and to my surprise there is massive differences (25%) between the same insurers on different platforms.

As an example admiral were 800 odd on moneysupermarket but 600 odd on gocompare (cheapest was through 1st central online at £480 odd but I have yet to investigate whether they are a reputable business.

So please do use all the comparison sites as I nearly didnt bother and it would have cost me hundreds!

I've never heard that tip before. Is the cover identical ?

Yes i presume so, I put in identical data into each comparison site.

For reference its for an L322 and I am 41 and live in Surrey. I'm not wanting an L405 but I did quotes just to see and the cheapest was 1064!

Yep, did mine yesterday. Moneysupermarket was £120 more expensive than Gocompare. The exact same policy with the same provider. Glad I checked them both. 2012 Range Rover Westminster

I had the same experience with same cover and same insurer at different prices.
What really surprised me was the number of quotes on comparison sites that didnt include glass cover. I have never seen that insuring previous cars. Not sure if its a RR thing or a new trend across all car insurance. Not worth the risk imho 2021 Westminster Black D300 MHEV

Having glass cover as an option is fairly new, I know someone who missed it and got a big bill for a replacement screen. You have to read the T&C’s very carefully with insurance. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Also, some include the glass roof as a glass claim, others as a full claim affecting NCD.....

The reason rates differ between the comparison sites is that they get different commission rates from the site owners, which means they can only offer a certain rate.

The whole insurance industry is a scam. It is made easier for them by the use of IT to get quotes, as they can measure through cookies if you have been before.

I looked at quotes 26 days before expiry (the optimum timescale to renew) and then was away for work overseas, so tried again at 4 days before - £200 increase!! Why? Because the companies say if you are the type who leaves it to the last minute, you are more of a risk!

When I bought my car in December it was £100 difference between insurance starting next day and starting in 7 days. Luckily prep required more than a day. Presumably insurance companies have data to show increased claims from those who insure last minute. 2021 Westminster Black D300 MHEV

I think it also has something to do with where you are, for all of us up here in Yorkshire Compare the Meerkat is always the cheapest comparison site by a long way.

As said, the earliest (usually 30 days) before renewal the cheaper the cost....  Pete
