Immobiliser??

Firstly, this is my first post, so hopefully I woun't get things too wrong!

I've just purchased a 2008 Vogue 3.6, so far so good, but it appears to have in the glove compartment something akin to an immobiliser. This consists of a loose toggle switch with a 10 amp fuse next to it.

When I got the car the owner said you just flick the swith, and it'll start. I think you know what's coming, I flick the swith and nothing happens.

So the main question is, can I get rid of it, and if I can how? If I can't, how can I make it work?

This hasn't been a great start to ownership, as I've just paid 540€ for the honour of registering it!

Needless to say any help would be gratefully recieved.

All the Best,

Robin. Smile

I seem to be the only on here Surprised

I'm sure you already know, but this switch has been put in the immobiliser fuse port. So now the question is why? and what happens if I just replace it with a 10 amp fuse??

Hi,

It looks like the previous owner has taken the + output from another 12v source and fed it back into Fuse 18 using the switch.

This could be for 2 reasons, either the original immobilser didn't work so he's bypassed it with a switch to enable the car to start or he could have fitted it as an additional security measure.

You could just check the wiring of the immobiliser bypass thing to see if it is the case and it's fed from an alternative 12v source.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the +12v feed to the fuse comes in the top, is fused and goes out the bottom, if that is the case then you could try replacing the fuse 18.

If it doesn't work then I suspect he's used to bypass the original one via the switch, and so in theory if you obtain a 12v feed, through the switch and back into the fuse panel it should work.

Other than that, the immobiliser bypass could be working fine but you have problems elsewhere.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for your reply, I'm most grateful.

I presume I can't do any great harm by trying the fuse back in F18?

I do fear I'm way out of my comfort zone with this!

Thanks again for taking the trouble to reply Very Happy Very Happy
