Alternator replacement

Evening all, quick question from a non technical owner, when you replace the alternator on a 2013 diesel do you have to remove the top coolant pipes, I have just picked mine up from the garage and when I arrived home it had lost most of its coolant and is leaking badly from the top hose junction on the left as you look at the engine from the front, hope that makes sense, dont want to call them up and look like a complete dafty. I had one replaced by my local indi , a 2012 from memory at 70,000 miles. Took the indi 5 hours! Was buried at the bottom ! Get a fixed price is my suggestion. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc
