Australia 2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Adriatic Blue
Ignition Keys

Long time listener, first time caller...

I have a July 2002 build Adriatic Blue (Parchment interior) Vogue V8 that's – surprise surprise – doing some weird things with its ignition keys. One key works perfectly to lock and unlock the doors, but won't start the car. It turns the ignition all the way to start, but doesn't engage the starter itself. All other electrical functions work with it though. The second key won't open the car remotely (works in the door lock itself) but does start the car. Is this something to do with configuring the keys to the car?

Additionally, the car is fitted with an emulator so that the dreaded ignition lock doesn't kick in... in case that has some bearing on things...

Cheers in advance!

PS: apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, I tried searching and couldn't find anything on this particular ailment...

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I also think the keys have to be synced but are they original or after market ones, to begin with?

The emulator has nothing to do with your issue.

They appear to be the original key for the car... the key that works the functions but doesn't start the car has a new battery in it too...

It was working fine but stopped all of a sudden. I thought it was the ignition barrel assembly so took that out and cleaned up the base electrical connector part. Still no joy, so I replaced the relay starter relay behind the battery and then I could start the car all of a sudden... but that was only with the "spare" 2nd key...

Speaking of which, the second key has a "fresh" battery in it – but seeing as it's usually the "spare" key I can't be 100% confident that it's good, I'll change that battery out this weekend...
