United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Santorini Black
Looking for your view please

Hi All,

I was getting the restricted warning if I accelerated past 2500/3000 rpms and maintained high revs as changed gear. I only ever drive like this once a fortnight to keep the 2nd turbo spooling up.

I took it to a specialist who advised I needed a new secondary turbo.

I put some quality lubricant on the change over valves shaft and I cant get the car to go into restricted performance. I can accelerate to 4500 rpm repeatedly with her pulling like a train and zero issues.

No oil usage
No smoke
No noises
No leaks

My top hoses (4 to plenum) are all genuine LR and as new and no air leaks anywhere else.

Is the above possible with a turbo tgat needs replacing?

The car gets fresh high quality oil and filter every 2 to 3000 miles and is in immaculate condition with 97000 miles. It also gets regular genuine fuel and air filters and all driveline fluids are fresh. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Santorini black ivory leather

Sounds as though the specialist didn't do a very good job - sadly a regular occurrence in the workshops of today.

Enjoy your car knowing that it is working fine for now, and hopefully for a long while hereafter. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green over sand

Cheers, in the 3 years I have owned my FFRR it's proven to be one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned. What's really surprising is it's also one of the oldest cars I have ever owned. Even more surprising is I have always been a serial car changer yet I have zero interest in changing my L322 for a newer RR. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Santorini black ivory leather

I can’t get mine past 4200 rpm

Original design of the CSOV was prone to sticking, and it is a fairly simple task to put a new version on - if not already done

Sounds like the change over valve was sticking and you’ve successfully fixed it. I’d monitor for blue smoke on switch over for the next few months just in case.

FWIW: the switch over to the second turbo can be triggered by using the command shift whilst in sport mode. Just change down using command shift until the revs go over about 2500rpm. This can be done safely on any clear road at about 50mph so you won’t have to floor the accelerator to get the change over to happen. TDV8 4.4 2012

Another example of an issue that needs questions asked on here before handing over £,000's to a so called "specialist"

This really annoys me, I wonder if they new the common fault on the CSOV, and were just going to change that and charge you for a complete turbo or are they just incompetent and were going to throw parts at it....

Either way they are relieving the owner of a significant amount of money...

Give the CSOV a spray every time you change the oil and IMHO it will last a very long time....

Or future proof it and fit the updated type.... Thumbs Up Pete

Is it (reasonably) safe to assume that in the absence of smoke, noises and warning lights my secondary turbo is ok?

This was the only blot on an otherwise perfect car so I am very happy.... 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Santorini black ivory leather
