Warped front discs

(2012 Westminster, TDV8)

After my alpine jaunt back in January, the FF came back with a brake judder through the steering wheel. After the long alpine descents (twice), I thought it was likely to be warped discs. I've just had the service and they checked and agreed. These are Brembo parts and have done ~5k miles on them. TBH, I'm disappointed that they have warped, the mountain driving wasn't "sporting" and as they're Brembo items, I expected more.

The garage quoted me ~£600 for OEM discs plus fitting, which I've politely declined. This now leaves me in the position of wondering what discs to get now? Mountain driving isn't going to be a day to day occurence so I could go with more Brembos but I'd appreciate some advice if someone's been driving in high mountains and can recommend some decent discs.

Discs shouldn’t warp regardless of heavy usage. The usual cause is sitting stationary with the foot brake applied when the discs are hot. This causes the discs to cool unevenly and warp.

First up, you need to be very careful as there are a lot of fake Brembo pads and discs out there, to the non-expert possibly indistiguishable from the original.
I bought the “Kinetix” brand from AZ Car parts in Wakefield, they’ve been on 2 years/10K miles, and seem to be fine, (though we both drive non-sportingly). The plating coating did resist the rust for a long time, but now they are as rusty as any, they came with Brembo pads, which seem genuine.
Of course, brake discs are a wearing part, and the fullfat is a heavy car, so bound to take its toll on pads and discs alike. There is a lot of snake oil bullsh*t on this subject, most of it isn’t worth reading, just go to a well-known local factor for whatever brand you choose, or just buy OEM from a JLR Dealer.
My original discs lasted 5years/40K miles, looks like the “new” ones will probably do similar, they either wear out or the corrosion gets them first. V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

The recent Sam's M&M video also suggests that shot lower arm bushes can also cause similar symptoms.

5,000 miles is surely worth a warranty claim if it is the discs at fault? 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green over sand

Hence why I got it checked. Lower arms are fine.

I did wonder about a warranty claim, I might give ECP a call and see what they say.

Update on this. I spoke with the garage (Roberts Country Vehicles) and they shared a perspective on discs:
- delphi are not up to it for the FFRRs. Fine for smaller cars but always warp on the larger ones
- Brembo (which mine are) are better but are known to warp
- Factory are fine and they've not had any issues with them

Given they replace a lot more discs than most of us will do, its good feedback to have. Factory discs are in the region of £600 plus fitting. I can get 4 sets of Brembos for that and it was only the mountain driving that killed them. I think I'll stick with the Brembos for the moment.

Delphi squeak
Brembo isn't really Brembo (EuroCarParts bought the right to use the name)
Genuine are fine, but come at a price Neutral

We use Britpart XS discs in the workshop. We've never had a warranty claim against them, and keenly priced

They also have a Drilled + Grooved range, if your that way inclined. Again, used them many times without issue Thumbs Up

Interesting re Brembo and ECP. Explains why they push them on their website! But does that mean they're junk disguised as good, or genuinely good? Could / would Brembo put their name to substandard stuff, or allow their reputation to be put at risk, I dunno?!

Are the Britparts coated? I've had it with naked discs, they look like crap in no time!

I've had success with Texstar on an MB cl500, but don't know about FFRR fitment.

ECP did a deal to stock and sell the entire Brembo range in 2015. I can see nothing to say the products are rebranded and/or anything other than Brembo products.

RobsterPC, I suffer the same problems with the Brembo, 3rd set in two years. Just changed them before my trip to spain with my trailer, not even heavy loaded, and they did not last all the way to destination, (1950Km) before warped again. Censored
Guess I have a look at them XS Disks when I'm home again.
