No cabin heating or adjustable cooling temps

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone here might have some insight into a cabin heating issue with my 2012 L322 Westminster.

Symptoms:

Air conditioning works well, but when I try to increase the temperature, there’s no response—only the coldest setting air comes through.

I did some testing and the auxiliary heater unit doesn’t work either. I tried activating it using the timer function (since I don’t have the remote fob), but it won’t fire up.

What I’ve Tried:

Climate control panel seems to work for fan speed, direction, and A/C, but not for temperature. All vents have equal airflow.

Checked all fuses related to the HVAC and auxiliary heater—no obvious issues found.

No error messages or warnings on the dash.

Has anyone experienced similar problems with the heating or auxiliary heater? Are there common failure points or modules I should check? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

It’s usually the blend valve attached to the rhs inner wing. The O ring inside swells and stops the plunger, which diverts the flow from operating. Mine failed in January. There’s another on the left hand side that has 2 valves (fbh divert and normal) but apparently that rarely fails.

Bit of a pig to get to and almost impossible to change the whole thing. I bought a cheaply (see pic) from eBay (£20) took the top off and eventually got the top off the one in the car and swapped it over. Worked a treat and my hands have just recovered.

There’s a guy on YouTube (rough restorations I think) who have done a decent video which is where I go the info from. You will find it easier with some ratchet pipe clip pliers.

I’ll post a picture of the part (can’t seem to do it on my phone) but this is the part number

NEW Heater Control Valve Solenoid LR016848

Gates EHV133 is the OEM part. Don’t bother with cheapo copies from the online auctioneer - ask me how I know - the Gates part isn’t much more expensive and is considerably better (original) quality.

If you remove the airbox, you have better access to the pipes from the front. Not a difficult job, just a pain to get to. -------------------------

+1 for getting the original part. I'm on to the second ebay special and I think this one is playing up after 2 months. The solenoids are also a smaller diameter than original but it does fit the pipes and brackets well.
I removed the fuel filter as well as the air box, became a 20 minute job then. (3.6 TDV8) 2007 3.6 TDV8
