Changing alloy and tyre size for more comfort

As the title says I’m after more tyre wall comfort plus resilience against potholes, rough roads etc. I just bought my 2021 Fifty and it sits on 22’’ SV alloys and 275/40 22’s which look great but I worry about punctures (my missus has a RRS has the same size alloy and tyre and has had a series of punctures).
After lots of suggestions on FB groups a lot of people say go for 20’s but the choices for a RR in 20’’ alloys are very limited. 21’’ offers more choice and whilst I favour ride quality (I will be doing mostly road moves but on some bad surfaces plus very light off roading) and this most definitely isn’t a city posing wagon, it’s a Fifty and I don’t want to chuck any old cheap alloy on there.
Suggestions please?
Also on tyres, I want to change all the tyres and want more sidewall. Any tyres (must be all season) and dimension recommendations at all please?

The correct L405 tyre sizes are at the top of this survey & some opinions in the thread

https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic57869.html

It's all a compromise, but once you get onto tyres, things get even harder as most people don't really have any back to back experience to compare and contrast. Usually it's a worn out version of X and how they feel vs a brand new set of Y. Then people have slightly different priorities and drive on different roads etc etc.

I'm a fan of the 22's, but I drive mostly motorways & A roads along with some mountain roads full of hairpin bends.

How long have you had the car ? The 22's may be better than you think ?

Maybe buy a set of 20's on eBay and run them for a while to see what you think of them ?

Only had it round 10 days but I have very fond memories of an old L322 we used to own and that was super comfortable. Checking the photos last night we were on 255/50 R20’s for that so that may be a good way forwards. Getting a set of alloys that look good and suitable for a car that was pushing £120k 4 years ago is another thing though. Comfort is the aim but it’s a great looking car and throwing some shabby alloys on will just make it look crap frankly (same as those that bling stuff up but each to their own).

You can't really compare, the L322 was designed for 18-20's, the L405 was designed for 20-22's....

It sounds like the first step is to find some smaller wheels that you like & go from there - or just pick up a cheap set of used 20's, run them for a few weeks & sell them on. Then you'll know what you want to do. Something like these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/146348192883?_s...R5Do3PPwZQ

I came to the conclusion that 21"s were the best compromise, and the LR098798's looked the nicest of the 21" wheel.

Having said that, I'm currently running around on a set of 22" turbines and they do look good.

Thanks for all the input so far, I’m veering towards the 20’s although that style of 21’’ would be the one I would go for. Plan is to get a cheap set and if I like them get them cleaned up and satin coated with a decent tyre (continental maybe) on them. Have to consider the spare as well-the one I have is this weird thin 22’’ tyre marked (funnily enough) ‘Spare Tyre’

These seem to fit the bill and while the seller hasn’t put that they fit an L405 (They have come off a RRS) they do seem to be the same as others that would fit. Before I purchase can anyone on here confirm that these will for the car please?

AFAIK, L494 Sport & L405 FFRR wheels are interchangeable.

That wasn't the case with the prior models as the old Sport was a Disco underneath, whereas the L494 & L405 are the same.
