Rain Sensor

Hi.

On the adventure of trying to solve the rain sensor not working.

I have had a new windscreen, this may be the source of the issue. It’s a 2012 4.4tdv8 so no option for calibration.

Is there a failure point in the vehicle I should look at.

I have so far :

Reset any codes due to playing about with rain sensor
Tried brand new rain sensor from island 4x4
Tried 2nd hand unit eBay
Checked wiring under drivers seat. No corrosion at all, checked for continuity all good.
Light sensor for auto lights works perfectly for all three sensors.

I did get a water sensed wipe on on check, but after restart back to intermittent behaviour.

Any help or suggestions very much appreciated

Replacement windscreen on its way, but I would rather be in a position of knowledge of what I have e done to narrow the issue down to the windscreen itself

Thanks

Additional question.

New sensor has opaque rubber pad pre fitted, does this still need the 3M clear adhesive pad to be used?

Or even the gel supplied on eBay?

As the fit without the pad is tight and secure with no air bubbles, the locking arms have made a secure clamp to the windscreen.

Thanks.

I would probably be looking at the windscreen to be honest. Was the new screen pilkington? Or a cheap replacement. I’ve had issues with two cheap replacements supplied by autoglass and in the end, after changing the sensor and then doing further tests autoglass agreed to replace with a pilkington screen.

Sure enough, the proper screen sorted the auto lights and wipers.

Hi

Yes new shatterproof windscreen.

Been very intermittent.

Previous windscreen was also a shatterproof and I was lucky to have that one working.

Giving the fitters another chance at a ‘non pilkington’ and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply !

It was a shatterpruffe (or however the brand is spelt) that caused me the greatest issue - auto lights on almost all the time and auto wipers not working and dropping down to old school intermittent type. Had the screen put in last October and finally got the OEM screen put in a few weeks ago - they were on back order for months.

In the end, autoglass conceded it was the screen by testing the new sensor the put in but off the screen. That proved the sensor was working and the car was responding to the input as expected.

Some others on here have also had issues the recent shatterpruffe screens too. Seems they might be a little too thick or something.

Are you sure recalibration isn't available?

I know my car is a 2003 but I had the same problem until I found, in the BlackBox Solutions Faultmate menu, the option to recalibrate. I did that and all came good.

Prior to that I had ordered a replacement sensor from the UK which, in the end I didn't need. Ron B. VK2OTC
