hi everyone, ive had a look around on the web without much success but im trying to find out the cost of a replacement hybrid battery for a 405, has anyone gone through that process? im considering buying a L405 that goes with the 2.0 petrol, sub 40k miles on it, but in my head thats the part that is the most likely to go wrong with a big price tag.

I think the answer is you, don't want to know.

Regardles of price, I'd check if they are even available as the earlier EV batteries from the 3.0 SDV6 aren't made anymore (manufactured for LR by Samsung). L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Last I heard they were around £30,000...!!! And you need a new BMS which was thousands as well, about 5 think...

I would say if you need a new battery then the vehicle is a right off.....

Why not just phone the local dealer parts department and ask, maybe they have come down a bit and you can check availability....  Pete

The Mr doom and gloom in me, say's this is what is going to happen to all these new hybrids, or make them depreciate significantly when they get to 5+ years old. Battery range is getting better, but the batteries only last so long before they need replacing, and lets be honest whos going to want to buy a used car that needs a new battery at £££££, if they do used prices will eventually reflect that issue.

Its alright for those that choose to lease as they will just hand back after three years as it wont be their problem, it those of us that put our hard earned cash into these vehicles and run them will have the issues, so my advice is, buy a non hybrid ICE engine whilst you can and look after it. Ideally the largest V8.

Battery packs can be repaired. Very rarely do they need a full replacement (unless damaged)

Edd China did a video about diagnosing and repairing an EV battery but I can't find it now. Think it was a Nissan Leaf

There are dozens of cells in a battery pack and it's often just a single cell failure. I think that as this becomes a more common issue you will find more and more businesses will specialise in diagnosing and repairing EV battery packs.
