I am looking at the L405's now and after a little advice. Usage would be around 20-30 nasty miles in town per month but 600 motorway miles every 6 weeks or so. Engine wise I am heavily leaning to the 4.4 SDV8 but remain very slightly open to V6, IF the exact spec appears, which brings me to the point...

A dealbreaker is interior, and I am after beige leather. One thing I have noticed, is that there is a matching beige carpet, but I have hardly seen this - was it rare/discontinued early on? I was trying to research the trim options at the time but unable to find much on that (to that specific detail). Does anyone know of such a resource, or have the knowledge themselves?

Some research suggested a bunch of niggles were fixed by the MY2015 (electrical and body), is there substance to that such that one might avoid MY2013/2014? I did have in mind that cars by this age, have either survived/had issues resolved.

Finally, budget wise is mid/high teens. In your more expert opinion(s), is that realistic for 4.4 SDV8 Vogue SE (or higher) MY2013-2016 with a proper service history? I would rather not bother at all than take a bigger risk on a dog! Also, if there are any less obvious, but significant, controls of price?

My old 2016 MY VSE had oatmeal semi aniline leather, beige carpet and configured walnut wodd, with capaccino dash top and cream headlining. It was exactly what I wanted at the time and lucked out finding one.

It was a 4.4 SDV8 and no issues in 6 years ownership, doing similar driving to you- some shorter trips, but lots of long distance motorway driving.

I bought my SE after lots of research, 4 years ago. I really wanted the lighter shade of seats, but they seemed to be mostly on dark exteriors. I wanted a lighter exterior. So I settled for black seats, with all other trim cream. My exterior is Luxor (silver) with a black roof. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.
1960 Series 2 88 inch diesel.
1955 Series 1 86 inch petrol.

Should I be weary of one I found on AT which has a solid service history but which ends in 2023 where it went "in house"?

The VIN is on the listing so can see the record on Land Rover service history portal and that all checks out. Its just a 2 year gap leap of faith taking their word for it (albeit only did ~5k in that time).

6 keepers to now but the current is 9 months and previous is 8 months. Before that was all over 3 years (though a 2 month period I imagine with dealer).

Whatever you look at, you REALLY need to get properly underneath it to check for potentially very expensive rust/corrosion/water ingress:

* - fuel tank & DEF tank cradles (thin pressed steel, poorly painted)
* - ACE pipework
* - Sunroof drains (undetected, these can write off a vehicle)

Search all that stuff on here and read up before you buy.

My signature line says it all. V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

Thanks for that heads up. ACE and fuel tank rust was something I had noted down but will add those to the list too.

Is it rust on the ACE pipework as well that we are talking about? and hence they need replacing and are not necessarily easy to come by?

Some information and pictures here which may help, you have to presume the steel rear subframe is eating away at the aluminium monocoque on all of them...!!

Yes pipes are unprotected mild steel and rot like lettuce leaves in a hot Summer dustbin, just like the tank cradles (which actually hold up the fuel & DPF tanks )
The Vogue V6 has no ACE system, so no pipes to rot & replace, a sod of a job DIY, and very expensive via a dealer.
Blocked/rotted sunroof drains can leak water into the floorpan and destroy all of the electronics/amplifiers/connectors, 5-figure bill to rectify can write off a pristine-looking vehicle.
Vogue models mostly have a 1-piece bonded roof & no drains to worry about.

Forget colour & spec completely, think about getting a solid car preferably kept in a garage all its life IMHO. V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

I had to do the sunroof drains on our 16 a few weeks ago, and haven’t rained since. Our interior is a brown and almond with black exterior.
