Tailgate Adjustment L405

Right sorry for the long waffle.

Ive seen all the YouTube vids and read all the posts on here regarding adjusting the L405 tailgate after it has dropped. My MY14 built 03/14 has dropped by about 5mm and has the typical LHS protrusion. It seems to be the guys with MY15 that have the luck with the easy adjustment.

My L405 came with an invoice dated 2022 from a reputable indy located in Essex saying 3 hours spent adjusting tailgate, £216.00. Unable to adjust further as limits reached.

After 3 hours spent Saturday in 32 degrees heat I can confirm this is the case.

Anyway a few things I did different over what has been said before. I did not remove the spoiler. The connecting wires are long for a reason. Just put a folded blanket over the back of the roof and lift the spoiler on to the blanket. You have enough room to get a ratchet / tourqe wrench in. Do not remove the struts. the roof will move with them connected.

A podger and a leaver work to move the roof around on the hinge if need be. Just do not distort the aluminium, also tried adjusting where the hinge mounts to the body. There is adjustment here but mine was maxed out. The right hand was maxed one way the left the other.

I was out of adjustment on 4 different points with nowhere else to go. It is no different than what it was! Open to suggestions. I adjusted the spoiler and stopped that rubbing and it looks lots better. Albeit 2 odd the built in adjusters have failed so had to resort to washer and M8 half nuts,

Do I replace the hinges and elongate the holes? I have ordered the update hinge to body bolts but thats a load of Censored .. Any input welcome!

I have sourced some slotted shims and the plan this weekend is to shim the tailgate up from the hinge with anti slip compound and try and tickle the adjustment in to place.

Thanks

Got to this from adjusting it over and over, by myself, using long 2x4s and cabinet stands to hold it in position up with tailgate struts on. It was an arduous process. I need to have a buddy over to help me adjust it better and this time, I’m going to disconnect both struts, leave the bottom tailgate down, and see what I land up with. I’m pretty sure the left side bolt was pressed up as far as it can go in the oversized hole. But I could at least get the window of the tailgate more aligned with the d pillars. It’s crooked if you look close. I doubt I can ever get it flush horizontally on the horizontal body line. Looking at the actual tailgate hinges, I cannot discern any bend or droop in them so I don’t really understand how it got this way unless where the tailgate hinges mount to started bending in over the 6 years of its life. 2023 L460 Range Rover SE P400
