Finally got round to swapping over my tailgate yesterday. I had some rust on the original one and managed to source a completely rust free one, albeit in white, whereas mine is Sumatra black. The new one has been liberally coated internally with Dynax UC so shouldn't ever rust.
The new tailgate also had aftermarket tints over green standard glass and I wanted to fit my factory tinted glass to match the original finish.
A bit of a faff, but involved taking off the glass from the white tailgate. Getting the tailgate painted in Sumatra Black, then taking off the existing tinted glass and swapping it onto the new tailgate.
The biggest issue when swapping a tailgate is getting the wiring loom out that runs down the right hand channel. It's held in place with 3 or so clips and you can't remove the loom with out taking out the clips.
There are various methods on line, however by far the easiest is to remove the glass, which opens up the channel and the loom.
Big thanks goes to Paul at Prestige Glass on the Wirral. He couldn't have been more helpful and certainly know his stuff. It was approx 6 weeks from taking off the tinted glass from the white tailgate to going back to get it refitted and he was very happy to accommodate my faffing about. Aside from windscreens and door glass etc he can also help on things like inoperative windows, dropping windows, out of tolerance regulators.
Very happy with the final result and just some final flatting and polishing before the Range Rover lettering and trim go back on.
