V8 petrol (BMW M62) unknown plastic pipe at rear of engine

Does anyone know what this blue semi rigid plastic pipe is for. I have removed the cabin air intake plenum and noticed this pipe!

Its approx' 6mm outside diameter and fairly rigid in that it does not bend easily. Its fed into the cable that I assume goes down to the starter motor and/or alternator - I have only just taken delivery of the car so still getting familiar with it.

The crankcase ventilation diaphragm unit on the rear of the inlet manifold is as I would expect in terms of connections and the two blanked fittings so I am confident its not related. Differential breather pipe is on the N/S. It does not look factory standard based on the colour.

I know! Who would guess that the starter motor needed a breather? It’s in good company, though, with the pipes for the front diff. breather, the transmission breather and the transfer box breather, which all emerge in the engine bay.
