L405 Seat Swap Nightmare

Hi,
I have a 2015 L405 Vogue SE and decided to swap out the front and rear seats.... I hopped on eBay and found a front and rear set that were in fantastic condition for a great price, so I purchased them.

The purchased seats were from a 2017 L405 Autobiography and not surprisingly I'm having trouble getting them to work. The heating and cooling options on both front seats work, but using the controls to move the seats only works very intermittently and only the horizontal control shows any signs of life.

I've purchased a number of different seat control modules in an attempt to resolve the issue but no luck so far. I've also purchased the 16,000 page "Range Rover L405 (2014-2019) - Service Manual - Wiring Diagrams" document, the wiring diagram section for the seats is 40 pages long, but it doesn't show detail in relation to the pin layout for the seat control modules.

A friend, who is an auto electrician believes we need to move/swap/re-pin one/many cables in the Local Interconnect Network (LIN) bus and possibly in the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus as well.

So, that's the background information. I am wondering if anyone knew where I could get any information relating to the seat control module connector pin layout.

Many thanks in advance,

Chris

Has the seat module been coded to your car?
They store the vin in the module and it will need re coding for a start.

Thanks for the information, really appreciate the help.

The 2017 seat modules haven't been coded to the vehicle/VIN. Do you know where I could take them to be coded?

Many thanks, again.

Do you have a G3iid gap tool?

I take it your original seat modules don’t fit?
Problem also your on the change over date.
I would try and get your old seat module to work on the new seats.

I haven't got a G3iid gap tool, I'll take a look online and see where I can get one.

Thank you for your advice regarding using the original modules. Would you then perform a full reset on the original 2015 seat modules?

Many thanks.

Sure I've read that they work on different can bus types and you can't make the early Range Rovers accept the later seats....

Hope I'm wrong.... Thumbs Up Pete

I contacted Land Rover and was told that it is possible, but some "tweaking" (as they put it) would be required with the wiring. I've done quite a bit of digging online and it was suggesting the same.

The 40 pages of seat wiring diagrams look as though it's possible. The fact I can move the seats horizontal position with the seat controller and the heating and cooling options both work is giving me some hope.

Thank you for your feedback, on this occasion I hope you're wrong Very Happy

Hi Pete, absolutely! It's back from the paint shop early next week and we'll be cracking straight on with it, once we're up and running I'll share info/photos.
