I've recently purchased my 2nd 4.2 S/C - the first with 260,000miles on the clock had a reduction pulley and made a glorious whine when accelerating or climbing steep hills.

My new one is barely audible. Are they really this quiet with the standard pulley? 2006 L322 Vogue SE 4.2 S/C (no longer owned)

@dhallworth: I call it "British understatment", that's exactly what I like on the FF, a wolf in sheep's clothing. A car needs endless power not endless noise like beemers.

I agree but the supercharger whine on the 4.2 was never over the top or excessive and it was very quiet in 95% of driving. A little whine when you’re giving it some to remind you that the beast is supercharged wouldn’t be a bad thing.
