Avoid tailgate split for under a fiver

It’s been suggested that the metal of the tailgate can split where the actuator bolts to it.

It’s easy to remove the bolt (the nut is captive) and add a 50mm x 3mm square washer to strengthen the area.

Mine hasn’t split yet, and hopefully never will now I’ve added this cheap modification.

They can split where the bolt is. The larger washer helps to spread the load and avoid the splitting.

Great tip.
And don’t forget to get as much grease in the ball and socket joint (shown to the left of the nut in your pic) that is exposed from beneath and rusts and seizes which creates the tailgate splitting problem. Se my pic below of the actuator and hinge removed from my 2019 AB. Had to replace both, wish I had known about how to easily avoid with regular greasing. We live and learn,
