Mine had never been changed that I could find a record of, so I did both diffs and transfer case at ~80K when I got the car.

At that mileage it is a good move to change the oils, lubricating oil has a lifespan like many other parts. Good news that it was clean, now you know that, you have some peace of mind which is priceless. planned preventative maintenance is good practice, helps maintain reliability, and is way cheaper than renewing components. Hope the transfer box oil is just as clean. |

I changed my diff oil yesterday on my L405 5.0SC as there is a leak pointed out at the MOT. She has done 100k and there is nothing in the records to say it had been replaced before. The leak has been there a while as there is quite a lot of old oil and muck underneath.

I'm not sure about the L405, however, the L322 requires a specific quantity of oil rather then being filled to the level of the fill plug as that is overfilled.

I read the same but checked the online manual from Land Rover and for the rear diff it sates "Fill the rear differential, until a thin thread of fluid runs from the filler hole."
