4.4L 10 yr service - transmission & transfer case? KENT

Hi all,

I have a 2015 4.4L AB and looking for a little advice on what is recommended at 10 year service. Vehicle has now done 92,000 miles and I have the full history.

It appears that nothing was ever done with gearbox or transfer case. From reading forums, it seems that is probably overdue at this point? What is the general consensus here, should I be looking at a full service + gearbox + xfer case?

If its all of that, what can I expect in cost? I got in touch with Stratsone and was quoted £2190.

Also, if anyone can recommend independents in the Kent area to perform this, or even further afield as I am willing to travel!

Thanks

Hi,

Mines due soon - got quoted £850 minus the gerbox service which i had done last year.

Finding a good indy is vital with he older ones.

Avoid the stealers if you can.

Yes can imagine dealers will be top of the price list, though wondered by how much.

What did you pay for gearbox with the indy?

I've used Roberts Country Vehicles in East Peckham, not quite as expensive as a main dealer.

I also use Roberts Country Vehicles for my servicing. They are good, I wouldn’t say great. Maybe it’s me, but I think they should wash and clean the car as a part of the service but they don’t. And they left a dirty fingerprint on one of the B posts.

They also don’t recommend servicing the gearbox if it’s working fine 🤷‍♂️ I asked for mine to be serviced. I also asked them to fit a tow bar kit and they said it’s too much agro!!!

I might give Dartford Transmissions a go as they are fantastic and now service Range Rovers.

I contacted both Dartford and Roberts - emailed former & spoke with latter.

With Roberts, I got the same feedback that they don’t advise a gearbox service unless it’s showing issues! Even as a novice, that feels contrary to the whole idea of servicing (i.e. preventative maintenance). I suspect that might be because LR market the gearbox as “lifetime”? (do they?)

In any case, Roberts gave me a reasonable price for the 10-year service. I did have to specifically ask for the gearbox service to be added, which does bump the cost up a fair bit by ~40%.

The Dartford price seems to cover just the transfer case and gearbox, and it’s about the same as Roberts minus gearbox, so would need to double check whats included.

Roberts would be more convenient for me, and it’s reassuring to hear Richie’s (average!) experience with them. They’ve just thrown me a bit with their stance on the gearbox service!

My last service with Roberts, they didn't change the rubber brake hose as they said that they inspect them. They said that no other cars demand that horses are changed regardless.
I might get them to change them at the next service anyway.
