New Zealand 2014 Range Rover HSE SDV8 Fuji White
SDV8 Right Hand Turbo Actuator

Have recently put a rebuilt SDV8 into my car I decided to given the turbos a refresh by having the rotating assemblies replaced. After installing the engine I found that the right hand turbo was reporting issues with the actuator.

I looked for prices on it, and locally it was $2.5k and I think LRParts had one for about $1.6k.

So I decided to go after market and find an actuator which had the same gear box number (80) in this case as the faulty one. Problem was when I went to fit it the actuator arm to the turbo vane linkage, it was not within the movement range of the linkage. It was parked in the middle of its range of movement which was too low for the linkage to be attached. I managed to attach it however when the lever was moving during key on, hoping the computer would be able to figure it out.

Sadly it did not so the last throw of the dice was to manually move the arm into a position so that I could attach the linkage. I did this by removing the cover off the actuator and using 12v and ground off a battery to move the arm to the maximum extent of its upward travel. I then attached it to the turbo linkage and after clearing faults the ecu seemed to accept the transplant.

I write this because if somebody had had this same experience and posted it I would have been greatly assisted!

Hope this helps somebody, shoot me a PM if you have any queries. Looking to replace the two turbos without removing the engine soon so happy to share that hopefully successful story as well.
