Car dead - what the heck have I done?

I'm in the middle of replacing the heater blower using Gary's excellent guide in the wiki. I'm at the stage of testing the motor, it's all installed with the cover still off. Reconnected battery and note that interior lights work, central locking works and sidelights on due to light switch being disconnected for the job in hand.

However, the car does not respond to the ignition button, nothing, dead (the key is in the car by the way). The light on the starter button is on. Nothing on the dash lights up. The only think I've done additional to Garry's guide is that I removed the instrument binnacle because I thought (wrongly) it might give me better access. That has all been reinstalled though.

Any ideas? It's as if something has tripped off or a fuse has blown (no idea which fuse to look at). Any assistance gratefully received.

I should add that the battery is new, fully charged and it has a new alternator. It all worked fine (except the blower motor, obviously!) before. Drives:

Thanks Mikey, all that’s not plugged in is the main screen on the dash and various minor lights. It did occur to me that this could be the issue, but the guide seems to suggest not. I’ll try plugging the screen in tomorrow and see what happens. Drives:

Gigantic sigh of relief time!! Turned out to be a dodgy connection on the back of the instrument binnacle. Took it out again, spray of switch cleaner, reassemble and all working as it should.....Phew! Drives:
