An awful lot of people buy cars like the Range Rover just because of the badge. In fact that is what creates the market in the first place, as I doubt that there would be enough demand for the RR by people who actually need the car for off road or towing.

Lets face it 99% don't buy it directly for the off road abilities. The point being that as a branding exercise, using the name for other cars to me is short sighted. It may sell more of the RRS etc in the short term, but eventually the brand will not have the same exclusivity that attracts an awful lot of buyers and thus degrading the brand and therefore reducing demand (and potentially not enough"Snob" buyers to justify the model as commercially viable).

For even those that buy the car for its ability, there has to be some "Snob" value to justify spending so much on a RR, otherwise we'd all be driving Mitsubishi's and Izuzu's. Smile

My Dad does! So do I in fact, but yes, we're a minority.

My dad's always looks shocking. See pic below, taken at our last house, I was trying to see if I could fit a FFRR in my garage so borrowed Dad's. In the end I had new garage doors fitted to make it fit!

When all 4 tyres do not contact tarmac. (Note: pavement outside a school doesn't count). Laughing The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Simple. Anywhere you wouldn't/couldn't go in an 2WD hatchback either due to ground clearance, terrian or surface.

Laughing Indeed!
It's amazing what you can do without a 4x4 if you haven't got one!

Have to agree with Larry a bit. I've only had 2 other 4x4s in my life - utilitarian Toyota Landcruiser SWB in 1990 (but was underpowered with a 2.5L TD) and a Toyota 4Runner 3.0L TD in 1994 whose engine was best in class at the time. I bought my FFRR after a few years finding the spec I wanted (Vogue SE ,Java Black, with White/Aspen two tone leather interior in the end ) and had looked at Porsche Cayennes and Toyota Amazons, but the FFRR won basically because for the money I was spending I also wanted a classy looking vehicle and they just don't get any better inside than a RR (from the base model upwards). The Porsche and Toyota pile on the leather and gadgets etc but just cannot match the RR interior even if their build quality is as good. Steve
