New 3.0L Engine in the L405

Evening Chaps,

Just HPI'd the following car:

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-ca...s-of-L405/

It is registered as a 3.0L - I can only assume there is an all new engine?

Doubt that. 3.0 will be the standard, then 4.4 as a premium diesel. They're also testing 5.0 in the mules - probably in naturally aspirated format.

4.4T DV8 and 5.0 SC will stay i have been told by someone who was at the factory 10 days ago. 3.0 may go in with a Kers type system to aid the green brigade for round town crap and of course for Group tax purposes Far to many gone...

The 4.4 and the 5.0 supercharged should be pretty quick in something half a tonne lighter.

this one I have already feels plenty quick enough for such a big car, but that certainly will be interesting loosing that much weight Razz
Might have to load up some balast to keep it gripping Laughing

According to what I've heard it'll be losing more like a tonne! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

I agree with TB that the SDV6 engine will have the electric aid to it most likely, maybe even this hybrid drive system of rear wheels being electric and then front being engine driven so that the grip is provided when needed and the electric is used to its best effect by pushing the car Smile

It would be a good idea as there is usually space in front of the fuel tank for some battery packs, and also if they got rid of the spare wheel then even more range could be attained and with the wieght saving it could then be loaded up with batteries and still be lighter than the current FFRR Smile

530kg might sound a lot, and it is, but it puts the RR still a little heavier than the X5, Twareg, Cayene - even though it has an aluminium body.

Now, if it lost a tonne, that would be saying something.
