If you look at underside of the cover flap to the OBD socket you will see 3 metal pins on the flap that appear to engage with 3 of the socket pins when the flap is closed onto the socket. The 3 pins are connected to each other.
The pins are definitely not part of any flap restraint clip.
Does anybody happen to know the purpose of these pins?
I can only summise that they form part of a circuit when the flap is closed but having driven the car with the flap open they don't seem to have any effect on the car at all.

Not sure what they are for but Mattstevens had an issue with a battery drain that he traced to his lights after it had a facelift conversion. He found that with the flap open it stopped the issue. Hi mate, I have the very same problem, what year is your rangie? If it's a pre 2006 have your had the 2006 facelift done, mine had it done before I got it and the drain has turned out to be the headlight ecus not going to sleep for some reason. The temporary way round the issue is to drop the cover off the diagnostic port I.e leave the port uncovered, this drops the powr to the headlight ecus and there fore removes the drain on the car. If you have a multimeter you can simply find the drain your self.

If you want to know how to use the multimeter to find the drain let me know.
