Replaced LH axle then height sensor fault C1A72

Hi Everyone,

Just had my local independent mechanic replace the LH axle (drivers side here in the USA). Went to pick it up and got the "SUSPENSION FAULT" message on the message center.

It was able to lower to access mode but the left front won't rise now. He scanned it and got, “C1A72: Front Left Height Sensor Mechanism”

The car only has about 35K miles and he was working on that side and disconnected the sensor for the axle replacement.

While it's certainly possible for the height senor to have failed right when he was working in that area it does seem unlikely. I'm guessing that when it was disconnected that the control module(s) lost track of the correct height and that it now just needs to be calibrated.

Does this sound like it's just a calibration issue or does anyone think it's possible that the ride height sensor just happened to break right then?

What I don't know is if he has access to the specialized tools to calibrate the ride height. I've ordered the GAP IID but it hasn't arrived yet and I'd rather not have to wait to get it to drive my RR again!

Any thoughts? Do you agree that it's likely just a calibration issue or do you think the sensor needs to be replaced?

Thanks in advance!

I've heard that when the suspension is fully extended that the sensor can go past 180 degrees and when the car is lowered the sensor arm can flip the wrong way.

You had to go and say that didn't you Shocked.

The shop I use is good and they are honest, but not LR specialists. Now I'll be up all night worrying about that!

There is a good LR specialist not too far away but they charge a LOT more. I guess worse case I hobble it over there for the calibration.

Thanks for the input!

It's all fixed!

The issue was the shop accidently installed the right height sensor upside down! They corrected the orientation and calibrated the ride height and all's well.

Thanks!
