MOT Question

Evening All,
Just a quick question for those of you in the know. I went to have a look at a 2004 TD6 Vogue this morning and on the whole fell in love with it.
My only concern was that on the MOT certificate in the mileage box it stated "Unrecorded" Is this common practice?
The vendor informed me that they were not aware of this fact and that the garage that did the MOT belongs to a friend of the family. Am I worrying about nothing or should the mileage be present in that box.

I look forward to your reply,

Dave.

whats the mileage on the car, if it is very low and you are concerned start by looking for a small black dot in the lcd display next to the mileage this will tell you that some thing is a miss,,,,
is there any history with the car,any previous mot's V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Never seen that before Shocked

If you can check the MOT certificate again and take note of the certificate number from it then go to this site and enter the details you should be able to work out from last year if the mileaage os correct or not

Are all the pixels working on the dash? Mine got so bad I could not read the mileage at all, so I had mine repaired before the MOT.

If the tester cant read the mileage I am informed that is what they put on the certificate. Reformed

blimey that was quick.
Now you see the plot thickens. The last MOT was done at the same time as the last service which was in May last year.
The bill for the service and the work carried out is away with the accountant because the family business paid for the work to be done. A duplicate invoice is being sourced from the garage in question. I know what you are thinking but I have no reason to doubt the vendor.
Should I just run for the hills???

Dave.
Just out of interest Daveo whats the story with the blakc dot?

The black dot is a sign that somethings been tampered with. It could mean something innocent but likewise, could mean the mileage has been "corrected" Reformed

From my knowledge it would be very hard to clock one of these cars. The mileage is stored on so many different ECU's it would take a wizard and a far bit of money to change. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Several ECUs store the mileage. The black dot means that the mileage as stored in each of these ECUs do not match ie at least one is different. The display then shows the highest of the stored readings. May be innocent (eg an ECU replaced and not sync'ed) or not. Graham

IIRC you can check old MOT's online for a car with certain information so maybe worth a google??

Since the car is BMW ECU based, "adjusting" the mileage isn't too difficult and may have been done by a unscrupulous previous owner.

This isn't something I've ever done, nor would endorse, but it's not as challenging as it may appear.

The past mileages should have been recorded on the previous years MOTs. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

If you know where to go and who to see you can have your mileage "corrected" or altered to you and i for as little as £100 upwards and takes around 20mins!

I or we do not endorse this! But i wanted to let you know what could have happened... Equally the pixels could have been ilegable at the point of MOT.

Personally, it would have to be a good one for me not to smell a rat and walk away! Plenty more fish in the sea...

Well I have a black dot next to my mileage.

All done by me I'm afraid as I upgraded my car to Auto Lights/Wipers and needed an upgraded Light Control Module (LCM). This was sourced from a donor vehicle that had clearly done more miles than mine rather than pay through there nose at the stealers and hence shows a difference to the cars other ecu's resulting in the dot..

Check it out carefully but it does not necessarily mean anything bad. Ash
