Parking Camera Goosed

Hi

My rear parking camera has one on the blink on my 06 SC Anniversary - it was fine then would occasionally go all washed out in white , come back sometimes be a black screen and still comes on sometimes when the planets are aligned - I am sure it is just the eye that is goosed but it seems a original replacement is around £200 which seems steep esp considering you can get IR ones these days - anyone done a swap of the eye with a aftermarket camera - if so care to share how easy it was and where to get the camera that fits?

Thanks

I put a 2010 one with the parking lines in my 06 SC and its brilliant compared to the old grainy camera... Purchased a 2010 rear spoiler with camera from the bay and rewired the plug... Happy days!

Craig, you are a genius when it comes to mods / upradeds for the FFRR.

What's involved in the retrofit of the 2010 rear spoiler and camera ?

Its been a while since I read it but isn't it how to fit one to a FFRR that doesn't have one rather than upgrade an existing one?

If you can get hold of a 2010 camera and wiring plug its only a matter of soldering four wires together and fitting the camera and housing either two inches further out on the existing spoiler and fitting a grommet into the original hole or fitting the 2010 roof spoiler...

Do the cameras usually fail entirely or come and go as mine seems to work probably one in 10 or so reverses and even then is hugely grainy and poor?
Is there a compatability issue with say the 2010 camera depending on the year ie mine is a 2006 VIN Td6 with touch screen satnav and lots of can bus gubbins waiting to go wrong!

Mine is a 2006 VSE and had no issue fitting it...

sorry to hijack but how much did the camera and spoiler cost and where did you source it?

Finally made up a working replacement for the 2006-2009 cameras that fail. Using new electronics in the unit and adapting them to the old wires. You would need to send me the whole unit, I'd retrofit it all and send it back for a direct swap with original wires. I'll have pictures of the unit and the picture quality in the next few days. I can probably do other years but I only have the 2006 to test with. Just trying to make it cheaper/easier for people to replace these cameras.
