Gents,

Sorry if this is taking up too much space, but following my electrical battery maladies in a recent thread, I've now been told that the solution to the steering column electric motors running after the ignition has been switched off is complete replacement of the column and motors in one lot, totalling £1300!

Now, Guava Land Rover tell me there's no easier or other fix. It's a complete assembly from LR and that's it.

They reckon the ring gear from the column to the motors has gone (common, apparently...) and that's the issue. Nothing else for it, apparently, other than a complete unit changeout. They reckon it's a 90 minute job and a very expensive modularised part. They also tell me individual motors aren't available.

So, may I ask what's your views? Is the above correct?

I've got a warranty on this from Ram and that's being looked into. But my cynicism tells me this could be a big bill for yours truly. Si. <This is my name.

Guava have confirmed the problem as above, so it's definitely the steering column and motors.

The warranty on this RR (that came with it) has said this isn't covered. I don't have faith in warranties anyway, so this is no surprise to me. But the warranty company said the problem on this model has been reported before, which is a bit of a shock.

But I like my cars to work as they should, so I've decided to have it replaced and will just have to eat mouldy bread and drink stagnant water for the forseeable future.

At least I get it back tomorrow all working properly.

if the steering wheel is or you can get it to the correct position for your drivability then consider a RAC or IIDTool to switch the thing off...cost of these is around £300 'ish and you can use them for other things like switching off errors .. ... - .- -.
