BMW Upgrades

Do we have any sort of a list of the upgrades BMW did to the parts on our cars , but Land Rover never had ?

I'm thinking ;

1) Mk4 DVD based Sat Nav

Is DVD based, so much faster operation and has more areas covered on a single disk. With later updates, you can have a 3D map perspective view and postcode search. You will lose the Off Road Navigation facility though, and the Navigation voice changes slightly.

The units have "DVD" printed on the front of them.

2) Digital hybrid TV Tuner

Allows you to receive Digital Freeview television in your car. You will need this as the analogue signal gets turned off in the UK.

3) Crankcase Breather Filter

The original foam based filter can get blocked and cause turbo failure amongst other things, if not chenged regularly. BMW redesigned the unit to just be like a plastic cone vortex, so can never block.

I think you can just replace the filter part, though you can replace the whole unit if you prefer.

The part number I have is BMW 11127799224

For the filter only, its BMW part number 11127799367 "Oil Seperator"

4) ULF Bluetooth phone module

Allows your car to automatically connect to your mobile phone using bluetooth, you then have a very expensive 4 wheel drive hands free kit !

Dont bother with a 1st or 2nd Gen ULF, get the newest one you can.

84 21 6 934 552 end of life 06/03 1st generation

---Don't bother with the above unless its dirt cheap--

84 21 6 934 961 end of life 03/04 3rd generation
84 21 6 950 089 end of life 06/04 4th generation

84 10 6 955 522 end of life 10/05 6th generation
84 10 6 969 268 end of life 04/06 7th generation
84 21 6 958 358 end of life 05/06 8th generation
84 10 6 987 546 end of life 9/06 9th generation
84 10 6 980 130 end of life 11/06 10th generation
84 10 9 133 329 end of life 1/07 11th generation
84 10 9 145 007 end of life 05/07 12th generation
84 10 9 154 358 current production 13th generation

5) Upgraded microphone

The newer unit has noise cancelling built in, so your voice is clearer to those who listen to you speak on the phone.

BMW p/n 84-31-6 938-762

there must be more ?

Cheers

I have just re-edited my original post with the information I have.

Obviously, more detailed specific information can be found using the search facility.

I understand there is an upgrade to the BM54 radio/amp module, but can't see much about it.......

(UPDATE 7/3/12) I have had my amp upgraded and done a thread here ;

I know it's not electrical, but one of the best bang for buck BMW sourced mods I've done is the BMW storage/first aid bins under the seats....

Mine has the first aid storage bin under the passenger seat complete with unused and sealed Land Rover first aid kit in it, I thought they would have all had this? Reformed

I think mine has, too.

Auto lights and rain sensor. I like that a lot! Si. <This is my name.

Here's my underseat first aid box.

Nothing in it, though. Luckily, I have a few new travel kits that I constantly nicked out of my Australian HiLux 'ute when I was working over there last year... Whistle

Hi

I'm interested in the mic upgrade.

See my post here;

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/post106984.html#106984

Did you have the same round ford mic as i have to start with - or did you have the older BMW one and replace it with the new BMW one?

Thanks

Hi mate,

I have the BMW microphone, as my car is pre-touchscreen.

I don't know much about the Ford system, but as your thread states, a brand new microphone from the Ford dealer has the same issue as the original one, so I'd imagine it has not been upgraded at any time.

Perhaps others with Ford parts can help.

The BMW unit has 3 connections ;

Positive input signal microphone (voice input)
Negative input signal microphone (voice input)
Shield wire connection

If the Ford setup uses these, you could in theory interchange microphones perhaps ?

Cheers

Hi

Thanks for that.

The mic i have has only 2 wires - red and black. Not sure what a shield wire is.

I've just ordered the crankcase breather filter too!! Now see what you've started.

I fitted the egr bypass last week, and got a new hybrid tuner the week before - so keen for another project...
