Speed Cameras

Thought I might share this info...could be of use...

M25 & M11 Speed Cameras

Be warned and be careful

M25 and the M11 will be equipped with Point to Point speed devices.
from August 1st 2009

Once you enter the M11 for instance ,you pass a camera that takes a
photo of your car and registration number and records the exact time,
upon exit another camera takes a photo of your car and registration
number, and records the exact time you leave the motorway.

The Cameras are set at a fixed points. With both the start time and
finish time, a computer is able calculate the time it has taken for you
to travel between the two fixed points, and works out your average speed
and how many miles you may have travelled over the national speed Limit,
and If you have completed the clocked journey too fast you are given a
speeding ticket.

At the present time the national speed limit for motorways is 70 M.P.H.
For every minute that you drive over the speed limit you w ill incur a fine of £30, and one point on your licence . the fines will be issued automatically but the MOT will be allowing a variance of 10% for3
months, which gives a top speed of 77mph untill the end of October 2009

The MOT will at a later date add cameras at all exit points along the
motorways. Remember that now with the new legislation, fighting speed
camera fines is almost impossible. You must prove the device is faulty
and if you are not a technician working on them, you have no chance of
beating the fine.

This drivel came from where Rolling with laughter

Specs have been around for ages I drive the M25 most of it at least once a week whilst there are Specs in places and yes I can see Specs will be used more frequently in the future but not yet

But then again you have to speed to worry about this drivel in the first place Thumbs Up

Driving at 70mph is tedious to the extreme, 80 is a much more comfortable speed, but I'm not sure if that's just because 80 everyone else drives at 80.

The anti 70 argument has been done to death, but I really do think some of our roads should be limitless, especially the M1. If I could go to Yorkshire at 130mph it would only take me 3 hours instead of 6 etc.

But either way, it is against the law to speed, and it's a calculated risk we all take if we decide to do 80, 90, 100 etc. I cant afford to drive everywhere at 130 at the moment, MPG suffers a bit!

Can anyone tell me why, in the SPECS operated zones, people zoom past at over the speed limit?

Do they not understand they are average speed cameras? Are they thick or do they know something I don't? Discovery 4 HSE

The cameras don’t check multi lane. If there are only two cameras it means its only checking two lanes, generally middle and fast. If you are speeding in the fast lane and you move into the middle lane before the next camera chances are you won’t be caught - but it will get you on the next camera if you are still speeding.

I was really tired once, driving on autopilot and was still doing 70 in a 50, I slowed down to 50 and moved over into a different lane, I didn’t get a ticket, but then it may have been monitoring a different lane.
