2008 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey
Another rse issue

Recently purchased a 57 tdv8 which I was led to believe had factory fitted rse. However it is starting to look not the case.

The rear screens are Necvox which I believe were oem and the rear has a 6 disc changer. Below are a couple of pics (excuse the iPhone quality)

Now the screens turn on and the changer appears to be doing something but I can't get the picture to come through. I have no headphones and no remote. Will the oe alpine remote work? Will getting the front screen programmed with the rse option help?

Bit of a puzzle for me at the moment.

I can't see the RSE module in that picture? It should be bottom right.. In front of the tuner. So to me, I would say you do not have a standard set up... It is a bit newer than mine tho' so I could be wrong... Previously..

Unfortunately that is not a genuine Land Rover installation. Genuine RSE have the screen fully integrated and 'sunk' into the head rest. Looks to be a neat job though.

The best bet would be to track down a fitter who specialises in that system as the DVD changer isn't Alpine either. The only RSE systems fitted to Range Rovers in 07MY are Alpine.

Defo aftermarket, do you think LR would allow the screens to have some other name on?

Just a tip, let your insurance company know you have an aftermarket system fitted as it will affect your premium... Even if a small amount...

Better to be safe than sorry as an attempted theft could leave you un-insured...

Thanks all for the helpful advice so far. I guess a lesson learnt not to trust a dealer in it both being factory fit and fully working. I should of really done my homework.

So to move things along, looks like I really need to let some pro i.c.e guys take a look to see what's what.
What about the rse module missing? Would it be possible to purchase this and have a properly integrated system? And if so any idea of cost?

Alex

Approx OEM Pricing (+VAT)

RSE Module: £500
TV Tuner: £1,200
Monitors: £1,000 each
Remote: £100
Headphones: £100 each
DVD Changer: £1,100

PLUS labour, PLUS the wiring etc

To be perfectly honest, I think it would be cheaper to sell and buy a FFRR with factory RSE. If the dealer has told you it is factory RSE in writing, you do have rights to reject the car.

Having said that, you have a system there which could provide all the enjoyment of the factory RSE - it looks a very neat job. But as you say, you need a ICE expert. Factory system has been retrofitted by someone on the Disco4 forum but I think it was expensive.

Well thats enough to scare anyone away from having a go Shocked

How about:

RSE Module: Brand New on Ebay live now £80
TV Tuner: Wiggs (forum member) Brand New around £350
Monitors: I paid £150 for a pair new mounted in OEM headrest from eBay (but these are rare!)
Remote: Ebay live now £50
Headphones: Ebay live now £50 each
DVD Changer: Brand New Ebay live auction current bid £100

IT'S ALWAYS GOING TO BE THE WIRING LOOM THATS THE PROBLEM Exclamation

Breakers yard and strip it from a donor vehicle is really the only option and then you need the RSE enabled using Faultmate.

I never said it was all easy and straight forward but I would say it's not the cost that may put you off Confused

Read my write-up for the Disco3 forum and then make up your own mind if it's worth tackling Whistle
